The Jagadhatri Puja is a holy festival in West Bengal. It is a day dedicated to Goddess Satta Jagadhatri’s adoration. This year i.e 2023 it will be celebrated on 21 November 2023. The mahurat for puja will commence at 3:16 AM and will end on 01:09 AM on 22 November.
As per Hindu traditions, Maa Parvati, took the form of Jagadhatri also called as Jagad-Khatri meaning “the sustainer of the world.” It is mostly celebrated in the states of West Bengal and Odisha. On this day, many tantric traditions are conducted that are related to Jagadhatri Puja.
It is believed that she took the form of Jagadhatri to save humankind from the demons or asur. She is also known as the saviour of the universe. Vedic texts have described her in the form of Maa Jagadhatri. She is the creator of the whole universe and represents it.
In the Bengali month of Karthik, Devi transformed into the four-handed Devi Jagadhatri, the kind mother of the world. Also on the Shukla Navami of the Bengali month of Ashwin, the Devil is seen as the ten-handed Goddess Durga.
She is regarded as the one who possesses the entire universe and keeps it safe from evil. She is also known as Adharabhuta, Maheswari, the World-bearer, Karindrasuranisudini and the Great Goddess, Karindrasuranisudini.
She defeated the elephant demon. The motherly and lovely manifestation of Maa Durga, Jagadhatri denotes “Sattva Guna.” For those who are not aware, the Sankhya or Samkhya school of Indian philosophy states that the three “Gunas,” or qualities, Rajas, Tamas and Sattva make up the “Prakriti,” or “universal nature.”
