Diwali falls twenty days following the celebration of Dusshera as per the Hindu calendar. It is usually celebrated in mid-October and mid-November. On the 15th day of Kartik month, Diwali is celebrated. The festival celebrated is spread across five days. The first day is called Dhanteras, followed by Chhoti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj.
Story
Diwali is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama along with Lord Lakshman and Maa Sita to Ayodhya after 14 years. Lord Rama killed Ravana, the King of Lanka, and returned from his exile. Thus, the people of Ayodhya decorated their houses with lighting diyas, hence the celebration of Diwali began. However, Hindus commemorate Diwali for different reasons. This festival is observed throughout India, it marks the cultural heritage of the country as well.

Diwali is the auspicious time of the year when the members of the family come to celebrate together. People get leaves from their office, get bonuses, new equipment is bought and happiness is shared. During this sacred time, various gods and goddesses are worshipped like Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha.
